INTRODUCTION TIMELINE MINUTES PICTURES

TIMELINE:

A record of decisions agreed upon by Chelan Cohousing

8 - July 29, 2007 Farmer-Friendly Provision and Cohousing Group Restructure.

1. The farmer friendly mission –

“Recognizing the integral importance of farming to cohousing, we agree to construct our neighborhood to provide housing that is affordable to our farmers and that helps meet the diverse housing needs of the farm.

2. The housing core structure –

The cohousing core group will divide up into three membership levels with the following characteristics:

Housing Core:  Decision making; Financial contributor
Unit Reserved:  Non-decision making; Financial contributor
Supporting Member:  Non-decision making; optional financial contributor

The housing core will meet regularly on a defined week-night.  Our large cohousing group will meet every two months – this will be a big hoopla, check-in and potluck night.  (and update from the housing core)

The housing core will have decision making process over the future of Sunshine Cohousing.  The consensus decision making process that we have developed will be followed.

Financial contribution would be $50/month and would follow the guidelines we have already worked up.

Expected lifetime of structure is one year.

7 - April 22, 2007.  Adoption of vision statement to be revisited one year from now.

"The vision of this cohousing is to be a center
of health, compassion, and creativity."

6 - November 30, 2006.  Posting our timeframes/goals for 2007, including building design work, site arrangements and development, and group process.  These are a "direction" we seek to pursue, not hard-fast rules.

5 - October 8, 2006: Revisiting our decision to operate by consensus.  Agree to continue with our consensus process and revisit in January after seeking expert guidance on using the consensus process and also perhaps experimenting with different styles of using consensus.  Wll also discuss the merits of using supermajority voting (if needed) in the adoption of the consensus process.

4 - July 30, 2006:  Agreement to conduct our large group meetings as a series of rounds.  A person can offer input once during each round.  Once everyone who desires to speak has spoken, a new round is opened and each person can have one more opportunity to speak.  We'll continue with as many rounds as needed on an issue. The purpose of this agreement is to acknowledge that some are quicker and some are slower to speak in a group and to offer a balanced opportunity for all members of the group to give equal input.

3 - July 30, 2006: Agreement that standard decision making process will be for small groups to bring agenda issues/items to the large group for decision. If not ready for consenus, then large group will give input for issue/item to return to small group for reworking. Those who have input to offer to the issue/item should attend the small group meetings and help work through the issue/item.  Two notes:  There may be issues/items that we do want to have major large group discussions about.  This agreement is only a general guideline.

2 - July 2, 2006: Agreement that core group is broader than cohousing residents and includes all who

  • Agree to regular meetings for the next two years
  • Commit to the values and goals of this community as we presently understand them.

1 -  May 7, 2006:   Agreement to make decisions by consensus. Three month trial to be revisited in August.
