TAKE HOME A WEEKLY SHARE OF FARM FRESH VEGGIES!
THE SUNSHINE FARM CSA
COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE PROJECT
|
What is CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA is a way of linking farmers directly with consumers. In exchange for an upfront payment, CSA members receive a "share" of the farm's harvest. There are CSA programs all over the world. Community Supported Agriculture is a great way to help build healthy farms, healthy local economies, and healthy people!
How does it work?
CSA is sometimes called a "subscription" or a "box" program. As a member, each week you'll take home a box of the freshest, in-season produce, all of it grown here on our farm and most of it harvested that very morning. We provide recipes and cooking tips to help you make the most of your veggies. We help you form a new relationship to food. You'll know where it all comes from, that it's safe and clean, that it's perfectly fresh and full of nutrition. With a box of fresh, delicious vegetables coming to you every week, you can bet your families eating habits will change for the better! |

| NEW FLEXIBLE OPTIONS FOR 2010!
If you're not in Chelan for the whole season or if a Full Share has always seemed too much food for you, we have new options designed just for you!
Peak Season CSA
Only here for part of the summer? Maybe you want to get in on the abundance of tomatoes, sweet corn, and melons, but aren't quite ready for the greens-heavy early boxes and the roots-heavy late season boxes? Or maybe you want to give the CSA try without committing to the whole season yet. The Peak Season share is for you! 8 boxes brimming with the best of summer crops, from mid-July until just before Labor Day.
Flex Boxes
Want even more flexibility? Get a CSA box just when you want one! With just 24 hours notice, we'll harvest a box just for you. Order online and pick up your box during normal CSA times. You can pay for you box at the market when you pick it up. (Order cut-off times are Monday by 5:00 for a Tuesday box or Thursday by 5:00 for a Friday box.)
Half Share Option
If a box every week seems like too much food, you might try finding a friend to split it with. Or, you can sign up to get a box every other week. (After you sign up, we'll let you know whether you'll be on odd weeks or even weeks.)
Winter CSA/Spring CSA
We will be continuing our Winter Season CSA in 2010, after our successes in 2009. These late season boxes will contain a mix of storage crops harvested earlier in the summer plus greens grown in our unheated greenhouse.
What about a Spring CSA? This year we are going to experiment with growing some crops earlier, but we are not ready to commit to a Spring CSA yet. However, if our harvests are big enough to make up some CSA boxes, we will offer them on Flex Box basis. If you're on our email list, we'll let you know when we have boxes to offer. | |

How do I pick up my share?
You have two pick-up options:
- Market table pick-up. Every Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:30 we set out tables on the east side of the market piled high with that week's vegetables. We post a list of how much of each item you may take. You choose from the produce on the table and pack your own bag. This option offers slightly more choice, and lots more social interaction. If you choose this option, you must commit to coming to the Farm Market every Tuesday between 3:30 and 5:30. We do not hold your share for you if you cannot pick it up. However, you may send someone else in your place to pick up your share.
- Pre-packed box. If you need a more flexible window in which to pick up your box, sign up for this option. We pack up boxes and hold them in our cold room. Your box will be ready each Friday by 3:30. You can pick it up any time after that during Farm Market hours. Note that we will be doing pre-packed boxes on Fridays this year instead of Tuesdays.
You must choose one option and stick with it for the full season (unless you are ordering Flex Boxes). |

Harvest Shares Fund
Please consider making a contribution to our Harvest Shares Fund. This fund provides CSA boxes to needy families who would not otherwise have access to the good food we grow. The local WIC office has partnered with us to identify families who would benefit from this program and to help distribute the boxes. The Sunshine Farm matches every donation in kind. That is, if you donate $100, we will actually provide $200 worth of fresh vegetables to families in need.
